Our Story
Built on treating people the way we'd want to be treated
The Insurance Smith Agency LLC was founded in 2002 by Jeffrey B. Smith after several years inside a large captive insurance company. Going independent meant one thing: the ability to shop the market on behalf of clients rather than sell a single brand.
In 2021 Jeff created two distinct business entities to serve clients in different ways — The Insurance Smith provides insurance products and services, while The Retirement Smith offers investment advisory services. Together they cover both sides of the equation: protecting what you have today and planning the income you'll need tomorrow.
We work with individuals, families and small businesses across Virginia. Whether it's a first auto policy, a commercial package for a growing company, or a full retirement income review, our approach is the same — listen first, explain plainly, and recommend only what fits.

Scott Ellis
Insurance Lines
Scott Ellis has been in the insurance industry for the past 18 years. Scott started out as an underwriter and then moved on to claims for several years. He has been with The Insurance Smith Agency since 2008 as the personal lines manager and is an expert in auto and home insurance. Scott’s experience in all areas of insurance gives him the ability to help our clients with any of their insurance questions or problems. Scott is very dedicated to making sure that our clients are happy with the service and products that we offer to them.
